Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. It was first enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War and expanded after World War I.

Washington's Birthday is celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is commonly known as President's Day.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is on November 11 and commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
