Preparing pages and tweaking the html can be time consuming and frustrating especially if you are inexperienced. Sometimes it is easer to simply put a background image in your background image link. There are many beautiful wallpapers that tell a story of their own. In addition, instead of using a solid color, simply putting in a textured background image, even without any other graphics, can give your page a nice touch.
A few cautions when using background images should be used:
1. The background image should be large enough to cover the whole page as it will repeat itself and that will look quite silly. Click here to view a background that is not suitable. This background image is 800 x 600 px. It is too small.
2. Make sure that the picture part of your background image does not disappear. 1024 x 768 size will be sufficient but it is better to use larger to accommodate larger screens as more people have them. 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200 are probably best. It should be noted though that if the picture part of the background image is at the right side or bottom it may not show at all on the smaller screens. The only way to know is to experiment.
3. It is important to put the background color in your background color code box. If you don't the links and text may not show properly on the standings, rules and report pages. Also, if your image fails to load, the desired color will still show on your page. Have you ever opened a page and for an instant see (for example) a bright pink color just before you see a pretty green background? That is because the corresponding background color code is not set. The browsers read colors first while the images are loading.
4. The background image should be simple with very few pictures. Make sure it is not so busy that the links and other text are drowned out. Muted or solid colors work best. Click here to see a background image that is not suitable.
